Thermal bridge

A path of higher heat loss through the building fabric, creating a locally cold internal surface.

Also called a cold bridge. Typical locations are the slab edge, lintels, window reveals, and structural elements passing from inside to outside. Because condensation and mould concentrate wherever surfaces are coldest, thermal defects and damp defects are frequently the same defect described two ways.
