Defects liability period (DLP)

The period after practical completion during which the contractor remains obliged to rectify defects.

Commonly twelve months. Defects identified and recorded within it are the contractor's to put right. Items missed before it expires generally become the owner's problem, which is why an inspection ahead of the end-of-period date matters.
